Pianist / Accompanist Opportunity – Melbourne Soul & Gospel Choir
Melbourne Soul & Gospel Choir is seeking to employ a piano player/accompanist to join our musical leadership team.
After over 10 years of outstanding service from the incredible Jex Sarelaaht, we are inviting expressions of interest from pianists who are passionate about gospel, soul and blues music and enjoy working with large vocal ensembles.
For more than 20 years, MSG has been one of Melbourne’s premier adult community choirs, bringing together around 90 singers in a vibrant, inclusive and musically ambitious environment.
Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings in Port Melbourne, in line with school terms. In addition, we do 4–6 performances per year at community festivals and ticketed events.
We’re looking for a pianist who:
- Plays contemporary, groove-based piano in gospel/soul/blues styles
- Reads notation confidently and improvises from chord charts
- Can adapt or enhance piano parts to achieve authentic style
- Assists with note learning and rehearsal support
- Brings creative ideas to support the Musical Director

This is a paid role with attractive conditions. There is extra work available in creating band charts and rehearsal tracks for the right person.
