  • Membership fees are paid quarterly and are currently $175 per person

  • There is also an annual sheet music levy of $20 paid once per year
  • You can drop out any time, but the minimum financial commitment is one term fees PLUS an annual music levy.
  • There are no refunds for an unused part of a season

  • We expect members to attend most of the rehearsals most of the time and take attendance rolls each week.
  • We understand that occasionally life gets in the way and you might have to skip.
  • There are certain points in the year (for example, close to major concerts) where attendance is important. Poor attendance at these times will prevent you from performing with the choir
  • We are a diverse community group that aspires to be a really good choir.
  • There are no minimum requirements, but we are also not a basic level choir.
  • We are also not a sing-a-long or pub choir model.
  • You will have music that you need to learn and perform accurately.
  • We have some members who are complete beginners and others who are experienced musicians and performers.
  • You do need to be able to sing in tune and have a basic handle on your voice.
  • There are vocal techniques specific to singing Black American Music (Soul, Blues, Gospel, R&B) correctly. You will be taught these as part of the regular rehearsal process
  • If in doubt, you might consider working privately with a voice coach (singing teacher) who can give you individual feedback and vocal development

We provide you with multiple learning tools, including:

  • written (sheet music) arrangements of the songs
  • audio learning tracks
  • Section leaders and skilled singers within your section who can help you learn

It is not essential to be highly skilled in reading music notation. However, it helps you learn things quickly and accurately. You should expect that over time, you will become more at home with reading sheet music.

Some of our songs have either small-group or solo parts. Soloists are selected from within the choir by audition. Any member can audition for a solo.
